Translation & Cloning: what difference
With translation: you use a view of an existing page but in a new language.
With cloning: you create a "copy" of a page.
The differences between these two processes have strong impact on your content life.
Translation
Translation is a "simple" translation of the content, without ANY possible modification of the master page: you cannot add or remove ANY component.
Key features of translation:
- Once a translation is made on a language, this translation is displayed on all the websites sharing the same language.
- Once a translation in a language is published, it is available in all the websites sharing the same language.
- When translations are done on the Global website, they can not be modified on a another website.
- Example : if a translation in French is done on the Global Institutional website, it can only be modified in the Back-Office of the Global Institutional web site.
- For websites in English: as English is the language of the global websites, once a content is published in English on the global, it will also be published on the other countries websites using English, with no possible modification.
- ⚠️ Once the translation is completed, navigate to the Content listing to edit the template.
- ⚠️ If the Global website add a component, it won't appear in the country website on the front if it hasn't been translated.
- ⚠️ The Global website must manually add its components and not duplicate them. If a component is duplicated, the duplicated content will be automatically published on local websites. Add the component using the "+" button.
Cloning
With Cloning, you create a document that will have a separate life, and you can add or delete component that were used in the master page.
Key features of cloning:
- When you clone a page, the link with the master page will be permanently lost.
- This new content will follow his own workflow, without any link with the master content existing.
